Sorry if it was unclear.
I try it again in few words.
If we have multiple roots, either they are coordinated (which is equivalent
to have just one root with the algebrical union of the TLDs), or they are
uncoordinated (opening the door to different Registries for the same TLD in
different roots, and therefore uncertainity on where do you land when you
type an url).
What I was saying is that the very moment you open the door to alternate
roots outside ICANN's authority you allow the proliferation of "wild roots".
You may "hope" that it will never happen, but there's no mechanism to stop
it.
Anyway, the statement from Sabine Dolderer (see Alex' message) seems to
confirm my feeling, i.e. that the ccTLDs do not really want to go to an
alternate root system.
Maybe this is because they too, as you say for me, "do not have yet fully
understood the way alt.root works" ;>)
