yes, since the number of endorsements is publicly available, this
could be tried - but even one stray @Large-member giving his
endorsement at the last moment could spoil this scheme.

BTW: what's the point of having many member-nominated people on the
ballot? In the end there is only one European director to be elected.

I'd rather like to see the candidates get together and check out
possibilities to endorse each other. 

One independent candidate with broad international support might be
indeed a challenge to the directly nominated company representatives.
