Re: [ICANN-EU] international press coverage?

Jeannette, Alex,

I would not make a big deal out of it.

The reality is that the AtLarge membership could potentially involve
millions of people. We have some 35K in Europe, more than half in Germany,
but it is still just by chance: we could have had 50K members concentrated
in Finland or Spain, but it did not happen.

What I want to say is that we see that somehow "germans" are
overrepresented. But this is just because we know the nationalities.
Maybe students, or salespeople, or blond-haired are overrepresented.

I have no problem with the fact that, whatever happens, we are likely to
have a German Director. We had two Frenchmen up to now, and no Germans, and
the sun did not stop rising from the East for this.

My problem is how we could make this machinery working properly afterwards.
And with elections (and electorate) driven by mass media, it will not be
easy.
I have paid some attention to the 5 top voted so fare. There are some that I
like better, some less. And they have good and bad points (in my way of
seeing things) that bear no correlation with their nationality and/or
language.
This is not the European Football cup, where a country wins (at the last
&$^%&$*$ minute). Here we must try to put the basis for a common european
work.

About Vittorio mentioned in La Repubblica, I didn't read the article, but I
assume it was more related to his effort in recruting Members through the
Italian membership site (Vota!) rather than in connection with his
candidature. But is just a guess.

I received a message about a poll on the Italian candidates. Eight questions
to be answered (in Italian, for a change). Will this change dramatically the
positions ;>)?

I only hope that better coverage will come in the next round.
Just to let the Europeans debate about the issues.

Just for the record, I live in Austria and did not have any coverage either
;>).

Regards
Roberto
