This is because you do not build an enterprise to feed some engineers,
because you want to make money. It's that simple. There are other
interests. Politicians want to rule the net. Users want cheap service
and security of there privacy.
The business world had to learn that closed systems (like MSN or AOL)
did not make it. None of the online-services without giving free access
to the internet could survive. I am not affraid about the future. The
internet is THE place where the most freedom is present, compared to
other media. This was hard work, partly. I doubt that organizations like
the ICANN are really IT. Can self-governance in the internet be given by
large organizations?

No the net sets the facts. See Napster & Co. The industry can win every
court but loose in the end, nevertheless.

Nothing can be compared to the internet. If you ware right, the chinese
goverment had to win over internet in their country. But what can be
seen is that the internet is more and more used (plus 900%) and that
controll over the contents will be more impossible, the larger the net
gets. You can influence the direction but you cannot act against the
dynamic!

Just watch!
Lawyers:
We do need in fact clearance about the law in names. Without lawyers
there is no future for the domain name system. We would see new suits
every week and nothing resolved!
