Allthough it might be of use if a candidate has a good technical
background I don't think he or she should be technically focused for
this job. The ICANN heavily depends on engineers know-how. But the main
deficit I see right now is the gap between the engineers and economic
and political interests. In this gap there is a need of a public
discussion about the direction we want the net to go.
Many things will develop along the possibilities an restrains that the
technic provides. Many things cannot be solved by politicians. But I do
not think there is really any important conflict between the work of the
engineers and what the candidates SHOULD contribute (many in the list
would not).

them to leave...
What is important for me is that a candidate is able to block heavy
interests of organizations like those of the EU- or US-Government to
utilize ICANN in any kind of way! The candidate should understand how
the world and the politics are working and what the raw direction of the
net better should be.
I don't think it's fair or necessary to grab one or two statements like
you did and focus on them without the context.
