About Italy there is very little to add to what already told here by R.Gaetano.
But I would like to add a different approach in dealing on why it is happening
this way rather than thinking it as an effect of nationalistic idiosyncracies.

The @large membership needs some sort of direct involvement effort
because of the PIN matter and activation. The probability of having individuals
who are into the media industry 'involved this way' is higher in Germany
simply (probably) because there are just more people 'involved'.
And 'projected high figures of involvement' surely better allows
media 'involved' people to propose media owner to talk about.
