I am sure that there is a whole bunch of candidates (including myself) who
are thinking that it does not make any practical sense to continue to be
still seeking a place on the ballot.
OTOH, I still want to continue "campaigning", if not directly for myself,
for other people that agree on some key points (like the need for the
AtLarge Director to be expression of the Membership and the need for the
Membership to self-organize for the future).

It is obvious that the candidates cannot now "disappear" from the "active"
list, not care about the people that voted them, and renounce to have a
voice in the process.

It would be good if we could focus on this for the moment, and prepare some
suggestion for ICANN. May I start.

- keep the withdrawn candidates on the same page, at the bottom, not in a
separate page
- keep the pointer to the candidate page, or better point to a "withdrawal
page" (on ICANN's Site, or on the former-candidate's site), where the
candidate can briefly explain why he/she is withdrawing, and make a
declaration of support to an alternate
- allow the candidate to send an e-mail to the his/her supporters (note that
this does not mean to release the addresses - the e-mail text can be sent by
the candidate to ICANN, and routed by ICANN to the electors)

We should be aware that, for this process to be meaningful, to allow time to
ICANN for processing the withdrawal requests, and for the electors to pick
another name, the withdrawals should be notified to ICANN at the latest
during the next week-end (3 September).
That means make a proposal in the next 48 hours, and ask ICANN Staff
(Andrew) to take a rapid decision.

Practical considerations.
The total number of votes dispersed on the more than 60 candidates with less
than 50 votes is over 600, which is not negligeable. And as we go closer to
the deadlines, even people that reached the 3-digit-figures may think wiser
to join forces, so even the leadership of Andy MM can be at risk under a
coordinated effort.
In less than two weeks we will turn the page, and start on a list of 7
candidates. How will votes distribute then? Will it not be wise to use this
first round to get a competitive advantage of a substantial block of votes,
that is likely to stay with the candidate?

Regards
Roberto
