Ok, so let's do both: candidates will be able to supply a 350-word
enhanced statement for the web page and for a "long mailing" to
the
membership, plus a 50-word brief summary on the ballot.

Would everybody be happy with this? I can call a panel vote, as you
are repeatedly asking, but this would freeze everything for a couple
of days and we risk missing the deadlines, so I'd really prefer to
proceed informally with the above solution. I think it is reasonable.
