Re: [atlarge-discuss] Chair

In my opinion, one thing the job of chair requires is attention to a number of organizational details that must be completed for the organization to grow up. This means the ability to work with people in an online environment and get decisions clarified and agreed upon by the panel. Part of this is a willingness to take the time to do it, and to have some sense of what the loose ends are.

Another job is to be a spokesperson for the group, which means having the sense to stay within the area where there exists significant support, and also to be an articulate proponent of the public having the right to elect its own representatives in the ICANN process. If not the icannatlarge.com chair, who?

I think that lots of us can do many of these things, and some of us can do some but not others.

A number of persons have nominated Joanna Lane, the former BBC employee, who co-authored the "Best Practices for the General Assembly" document, and who played a key role in getting the GA to hold the rebid vote (that resulted in the ICANN board banning such votes) and who really organized this election.

While I think there are many persons on the board who would be a good chair, I think we would be lucky to have Joanna.
