[atlarge-discuss] Why was the GA list closed off?

On a separate matter, Thomas, I see ICANN has closed down the GA mailing
lists.

Obviously with the change in structure from DNSO to GNSO, some alterations
were inevitable. But why did ICANN not opt to "migrate" the list and keep it
open to ordinary users as individuals?

Once again, it seems to the individual user like an attempt to limit
dialogue, participation, and openness to criticism.

"At Large" Board members... elected and accountable... EXPELLED

ALSC set up by Icann but proposing too much democracy... IGNORED

GA... became a mechanism for calling Icann to account, voted for a re-bid...
CLOSED DOWN

What I see is: stifling of dissent; marginalisation of ordinary internet
individuals; rejection of democracy, openness, accountability.

Icann is not to be trusted with the worldwide structuring of the At Large...
they want a semblance of involvement for users which they can contain and
control.

The Internet does not belong to ICANN. The Internet belongs to hundreds of
millions of ordinary users. These ordinary users should maintain a distance
and critical independence from Icann (which is a hostile force that has done
everything in its power to remove the At Large from any real power).

"EXPELLED - IGNORED - CLOSED DOWN"... The Ralo's and the Denise/Esther show
is a *trap* ... an exercise in damage limitation... it makes Icann *seem*
like it takes the At Large and accountability seriously when it doesn't...
it cleverly draws in the At Large to legitimise its own enfeebling.

There is another way.
