RE: [atlarge-discuss] STATUS: NOMINATIONS AND SECONDS

Jefsey,
The problem with this idea is no criteria has been agreed, and it's not as
clear cut as you think. If you ask each candidate to state their region, I
would have to ask to be listed in two - Europe (nationality) and N. America
(residence).

For people who don't live in their country of birth, under ICANN established
rules, such a person is not eligible to stand for election in the region in
which they vote or live. A person with dual citizenship has the option of
standing for election in both, but can only vote where they are resident.
The criteria for residence varies from country to country. In the US,
residency qualifications vary depending on whether you are talking to the
IRS about tax matters, or immigration. Let's not perpetuate that nonsense
here.

While I agree that regional diversity is important, it's only one of various
criteria that ought to be given prominence in this election. Equally, we
could make lists that divide candidates by their position on various
issues - the pro-ICANN lobby vs. the Rebid ICANN contract lobby.

Thanks, but no thanks - I would rather be judged and judge others by the
nature and extent of contributions to this organization over the last few
months.

Regards,
Joanna
