Re: [atlarge-discuss] ALOC Draft 3.0

You often sum things up very well, Danny, and that's exactly what's
happening here : the proposal for an ALAC "effectively institutionalizes the
loss of representation for the At-Large".

And then ICANN can go to DoC and say, "See! The great things we are doing
for the At Large community!" when the reality is that they have taken away
the elected representation on the Board.

The Internet is a worldwide resource. It is used and developed by hundreds
of millions of ordinary people, and it is of immense benefit to millions all
over the world.

These people should have representation and decision-making powers at Board
level, and it is the ordinary users worldwide who should have the greatest
say in how the Internet is administered and developed.

The reversal of policy by ICANN merely protects the Board from divergent
views and adequate accountability. This is compounded by their historic lack
of openness and responsiveness.

The ALAC initiative merely upholds the unacceptable change and strengthens
it, by creating a veneer of accountability, while not in fact holding the
Board to account at all. The Board controls from the "top down".

It is running scared of accountability to an electorate.

ALAC merely masks and -as you say- "institutionalises" the dictatorship.

Richard Henderson
