RE: [atlarge-discuss] Issues

I Disagree, "substantive domain name issues..." isn't the Big-picture
issue here.

ICANN has been running like a Real Estate Development firm (Cyber Real
Estate) without any real oversight, Just like the Railroad Robber Barons
of the Wild Wild West. They have Stolen the wide open spaces from the
Indigenia, not unlike what happened to the Native American Indians. They
then Incorporated Title companies (.info, .biz, .pro etc...) and
parceled chunks of Cyber-space, They then in turn negotiated Brokers
(Register.com, Verio.com, etc...) who subdivide the space and sold lots,
worse yet they are Rented/Leased, with no real property title. All along
without the "Substantive Authorization" of the People.

It is a Corporation, its run like a Corporation. Just like a Rail-Road;
information goes up the line, information goes down the lines, the lines
of Management.

Here:

You want to talk about "substantive domain name issues" OK
You know what really angers me about Icann, is how it closed (the
process it used; Classic Economic Colonialism) the community doors.

"The difficulty is analogous to the celebrated "tragedy of the commons"
problem, in which villagers send too many cattle to graze on commonly,
owned pasture-land. An extra steer becomes more valuable because of the
weight it gains from eating the grass on the commons. But much of the
grass it eats would otherwise have been eaten by the steer already
there. Since most of the existing steers are owned by others, an
individual villager considers only the weight his own steer will gain
when deciding to whether to send an additional steer. Because he ignores
the cost to others, the prospect of sending an additional steer seems
more attractive to him than it is, in fact to the village as a whole."

In this example the Villagers are the Corporate interest (NNT, AT&T,
DO-Mo-CO, AOL, etc..) the Cattle are the Domain brokers( Verio,
Register, etc..) And were the Grass.

There's nothing new here, that YOU didn't already know!

Now are we having a Tea Party or not? (i.e.: The Boston Tea Party)
King and his court await this months Taxes.

"frankly, it makes you wonder when people /only/ participate in
meta-discussions and are not interested in the issues themselves."

This is foul: so I'll give you a hint, it's called: Taxation without
Representation.

Know body said that Democracy would come easy.

I agree with Alex.

As you consider the candidates, first ask yourself how many even
bothered to
respond to questions posted on this list, and second, what user issues
have
they identified as important. In my view, this election is shaping up
as a
farce of major proportions, and that does not reflect well upon this
organization.

The ballots are already being sent out tomorrow, and what do we really
know
about most of these candidates with respect to "issues"? Almost
nothing.
How many have even taken the time to submit candidate statements?
