It is a two tiered problem.

Some cannot pay, that is level one and it is serious.

Level two is our legitimacy and getting people who can pay to pay.
Many will not join for free due to affiliation with ICANN problems.
Donation is truly the correct wording.

If someone has the trust and desire they would do well to file some non-profit
status papers and open an account.  Legitimizing is only a matter of
paperwork.  I note for trademark purposes corps. can be filed for a few
hundred USD.

PS. We got my favourite (shoeshine) a new brace for his agent orange leg. Life
does get better when we try to make a difference.
