Re: [atlarge-discuss] Revised ALAC report submission schedule

I believe that many people joined this organisation because they wanted an
agenda which represented them rather than an agenda which was generated by a
small group of people intent on retaining power and influence.

By all means, icannatlarge.com will monitor any initiatives ICANN concocts
to put off democratic election of users to the Board.

But I'm sorry, Bret, we are entitled to have our own agenda - and I believe
the best way to influence ICANN is not to kowtow to their own schemes, but
to negotiate from a position of strength. We do not yet have that strength
(except the strength of our ideas and ideals), but when we grow in numbers
we will have greater strength.

To play with ICANN at their own games is to concede defeat : it is to accept
the diminution of our influence to virtually nil.

Is THAT satisfactory to our members? Is that what ALSC proposed? Is that a
proud way for users to be represented? I believe Icannatlarge.com (soon to
be renamed) is setting out on its own exciting journey, its own initiative,
its own agenda. Part of that agenda is to demonstrate to the public that
millions of other users like us can, indeed, be effectively represented
using models of online democracy. Part of that agenda is to bypass ICANN's
machinations and structures.

But we will listen and observe, (and comment!)... we will watch ALAC with
cold and dispassionate reason - because, in truth, we have greater things
and greater principles to feel truly passionate about.

ICANN is part of the old order.

Richard
