There are vocations, avocations, obessions, and then the rest of our
"dailies" which we mostly want to use - without knowing more about them
than how to use them. And in this we are amongst the norm.

For most, if we asked them to list five things that the expression
at-large referred to, their list would start with their local politician,
include escaped criminals, and might never make it to the fifth item.

Yet, if you introduce to them the concept that the needs and rights of all
people are not to be abrogated by the technical, business, military or
governmental interests of those who are otherwise so vested - and that
we, the ...atlarge... represent their interests - their response would be
along the lines of "Okay - that makes sense..."

As to associated alphabet soup - ABC NBC CBS CNN CNBC MNBC - confusing as
it could be, it doesn't have to be confusing - and with the proper
results, isn't...
