[atlarge-discuss] Re: Cowardice

Eric,

I have heard the "power of the people" mantra many times (usually by members
of the Socialist Worker's Party that spend their time vapidly engaged in
"outreach" in garment centers and other blue-collar locales), and it
presupposes that the "people" can be mobilized. That again presumes that
large numbers of people will acquire a sustainable interest or moral outrage
relative to the topic at hand.

Time to get real Eric. ICANN is about as interesting to the average person
as recent developments in the highway infrastructure system -- it's boring
stuff, except to a few afficionados. You will never mobilize the masses to
care about ICANN, but feel free to climb onto a soapbox and minister to the
oppressed. You'll feel good, but it won't produce any other tangible results.

Hey, if you think that icannatlarge.com can actually accomplish something,
then hang in there and fight for the cause. I will look for another way of
dealing with the problem. Sorry, but an organization that won't actively
lobby for its cause, that won't send out letters to relevant parties, that
has no bylaws, no funding mechanisms, that won't support its own candidates
for election to the ICANN board, and that can't even handle a simple ballot
in a timely fashion is not an organization that inspires the masses.

Look around and take stock of how many have already "packed up and left".
Your list participation and your forum comments are at an all-time low. That
should tell you something. There is nothing wrong with having participated
in a failed venture. The only mistake is continuing to participate when the
game is already lost.

I wish you well, but I will no longer contribute to this forum.

I look forward to corresponding with you in other venues.

Best wishes,
Danny
