When Adam Smith stated in his INVISIBLE HAND, a rationale of the
Industrial Revolution was that when everyone worked as hard as possible in
their own interest, they, led by an invisible hand, benefited everyone
else as well, Keynes is supposed to have sneered that it was the
extraordinary belief that the nastiest of men for the nastiest of motives
will somehow work for the benefit of all...
