Unfortunately this is not necessarily true.  Identity verification and
certification should definitely be mandatory.  One does not have a right
to anonymity when running for office to represent others.  It can be
shown historically that voters will at times mark ballots randomly and I
would hazard a guess that in some elections even "Mickey Mouse" could
gain election.

Since I do not know those candidates either, I would be just as eager to
receive some info from them.

Making this mandatory however is not a good idea, somehow they gained
the votes they did, so some people know them enough to vote for them. It
is up toi any candidate to run the way he wants for any post, it is up
to the members to decide if they agree with his/her methods.
