RE: [atlarge-discuss] The VOTE on the Polling Commission

Eric, Jeff & all:

In the course (and cause) of human affairs it may be best to leave to return "normal" to its mathematical origins and statistical use, which is entirely neutral in meaning.

Re the subject discussed here more meaningful words (imo), might be regular (folks), ordinary (folks), common (folks), average (folks) and majority (of folks).

All these in are in contradistinction (imo) to elitist -- the classification of people (and things) according to some arbitrary (and typically capricious, i.e. not universally shared) scale of value.

In this discussion of don't see either of you debating or intending the latter, rather the former, i.e. regular, ordinary, common, average and the majority of folks, local and world wide.

I suspect even angels, much less us humans, may occasionally be less precise in the choice of their words than the meaning of their intent. :)

On Jeff's point, I too abhor the use of "legalese" whose only purpose is to obfuscate and elude the vision and understanding of ordinary people. The practitioners of law, by and large are a privileged elite who've monopolistically stolen the mantle of, and power in, "knowing what's best" for the rest of us.

Eric,

You misinterpreted my meaning. There were no aspersions cast to the
South or any direction, rather toward the legalese that pervades much of
the documentation under which the world suffers. As to the "normal" -
color has no bearing on the distinction but rather is dependent on
whether the citizen is in a position of supposed authority or just one
of "regular folks".

I could post bilingual messages easily, even multi-lingual, but see no
reason to do so since I believe it is better to let people make their
own translation errors and not confuse issues before they even have a
chance by including any less than accurate representation of my
thoughts.

You see my friend it is the definition of a "normal citizen" that causes
the
tensions.
What color should a string be to be normal, white? rainbow? brown?
yellow?
Black? red? I suppose it depends on from where and when you came.
Comprehension in this area requires tolerance and cultural awareness.
Mauro has written most of his posts in dual linguistics - lest you can
do
the same you should stop making aspersions against those south of your
border although we all have our right of bias.
