More freedom, and nicer domain names. What I do NOT expect is more freedom
from law or conflicts, however. This is just the same as thinking .org is
for non-profit organizations only.

What could be nice if it were possible to create new gTLD's with *very*
specific conflict resolution, like a pers or priv domain for private
persons *only*, with conflict resolution of, say, first come first serve
or possibly something better.

That is, if gtld's get introduced slowly enough, new methodologies of
handing subdomains out might emerge.

I know that this is similar to the .org = non-profit-orgs approach, and
that this approach was not very successful, thus I am reluctant to expect
better conflict resolution (my main concern) from new tlds.

I *do* think, however, that they do not add to the problem and are a
nice-to-have addition, equalizing the current system (.com and .int? .org
and or.jp?).

In my previous "highly technical" (not) discussionb with Marc I started
with a few tentative thoughts already. I think the near future will see no
change, but I could image things like:

microsoft	NS2	80 ns.minisoft.org.
microsoft	NS2	80 ns.microsoft.org
microsoft	NS2	21 ns.mailsoft.org.
microsoft	NS2	21 ns.microsoft.org

i.e. ns records splitted for protocol AND shared entries (one could leave out
protocoll splitting, obviously and go for MX/NS sharing etc..)

This would of course require software support form about any program, and I
can imagine fights for the "first" entry because some software favours this.

But it is an idea ;)
