Hello!
I was asked to join this mailing list. So here I am.
I did, what Thomas Roessler asked me to do: I read the threads.
Maybe I'm wrong, but may I remind you, that the possible elected
candiate will be one of 18 directors? They all came from companies
and institutions with commercial interests. Just take a look on
the ICANN-site.
And take a look on the candidates nominated by the nominating
commitee. Any doubts?
Our director will be able to bring some new ideas, but he surely
will not be able to change the world by being "director". All he can
do: He can report his impressions to the users. He can explain
to everybody, what's going on with ICANN, who's making the rules and
why.
Then the neticens have organize themself and fight agains any
misuse - as far as they could do it.
So I would like to talk about the things that our director will
really do, ok?
Some background:
Believe me - I know, what I'm talking on.
I'm president of a group of citizens networks (NO, we are NOT
a political influenced network, but we got some insights into
politics!!).
Within our Union 82 local networks are organized. The local
networks are - according to tax law - devided into an educational
and a technical part. Within the educational part we have about
50.000 Users, within the technical part (including Internet-Access)
about 140.000.
For some years we were supported by the bavarian government.
In 1998, when I became president, we lost this support. We had
to work very hard to keep our organisations alive, but we were
mostly successful.
So don't tell me anything about the People at ICANN or other
organisations working close to a government.
Hope, I brought some new aspects.
Bertram
P.S.: Greetings to Lutz Donnerhacke: Nice to meet you again.
As far as you will be successful and I will fail I will try to
support you.
