[ICANN-EU] Rules for the EU@LC ML

Dear Jeanette, Dear all,

If we form a message list that will be the
substance of the EU@LC, here are some
rules that I find helpful:

<quote author="Jeannete">
If we manage to agree on rules that are explicitly
designed to avoid chaos, flames and rampant traffic,
we may be able to govern ourselves.
</quote>

DO ...

0. Create THREE lists:
    (a) Member presentation,
    (b) Sum-ups, announcements, questions by the directors,
questions to the directors, invited "speakers",
lists of papers and links, etc., i.e. messages of some general
nature and of interest beyond a particular thread.
    (c) List for everything. No moderation. We are responsible
         people, aren't we?

1. Fully and honesty PRESENT yourself, at the beginning, in a
parallel message list called "member presentation". In this
list also, other people will be able to thread to a specific
presentation at later times with complaints or other appraisals.
This way, a person with a lot of positive appraisals gains authority
given to him by the other members according to his/her
intellectual accomplishments and his/her conduct. A person with
lots of complains, well, ... he will be forced to live with them,
as long as he will be member. I really think that this is a fair
regulatory procedure by the members for the members.

2. LIMIT the number of postings per unit of time. Unit of time might
be a day or a week. Number of postings can be one, ten, or fifty.
Or, list (a): five per week, list (b): three per week, list (c): fifteen
per week. Self-regulation. No counters. If one writes too many
   messages he will receive complaints.

3. SUM-UPs people. Sum-Ups!

4. Each one of us, in his site (a site can be a
requirement, maybe) should make a list of his
postings so that everyone (including himself) will be
able to LINK references and to go back and see interesting
points. This can help also by allowing all of us to post
SMALL messages with links to the elaborated points.

5. Put KEYWORDS in the messages. Then, later, a simple search
methodology can be implemented. We might as well think
   NOW for the keywords.

DON'T ...

1. EXCLUDE a priori anyone.

2. Accept UNKNOWN persons. A detailed self-presentaiton
must be required. A valid physical address also
might be required in the self-presentation. Also occupation.
Maybe other things can be required.

3. Write NON-English in the messages (assuming that the
language of the messages will be the English lang.)

4. Develop personal FIGHTS. At least, try not to.

What do you think?

Sincerely,
Constantin Chassapis
