Good list of points, Jefsey!
Let me add some that I had developed and could not reflect on my profile due to the lack of the
!@#@!*? pin.
The role of ICANN and other entities responsible for development, monitoring
and support of the Internet must include:
** A Bill of Rights and Responsibilities for the Internet users, domain
owners, editors and publishers ...
** Full and Upfront Disclosure of Terms and Conditions, including fees,
rights and obligations.
** A Rating or Standards System developed jointly and voluntarily by the
Internet industry, users and content providers on -- privacy, security, and
suitability of content for various maturity levels of the audience.
** Some Minimal Requirements for Publishing on the Internet intended for
general, public use (e.g., author, date, subject, topic, audience,
categories and subcategories, metatags)
** Uniform But Flexible Protocols, Formats and Infrastructure across
networks, servers and clients thus leading to and keeping the Internet
open-ended unencumbered by any one technology, point of view, authority,
vendor, service provider, region or country.
** Equal, Open, Democratic Ability to Access and Use the Internet at a
reasonable cost -- irrespective of economic, political, military capabilities
or structures, and despite religious, linguistic, cultural and educational
differences, and physical or mental abilities
** Achievement of Objectives Through Open Economic Means, that is, demand and
supply, government's role in keeping economy relatively free, and mostly and
naturally due to the needs, desires and demands of the consumers who pay the
industry for its products and services.
** At Large Representation at ICANN is for At-Large Participation, i.e.,
Individual or Small Business user, publisher, and domain owners. Other roles
and organizations are already there. At-large directors must represent the
interests and views of the individuals and small business.
** The At Large Directors Must be an Impartial, Objective, Effective Voice
for all in this category -- with its diversity and without any vested
interests -- to represent not only the 20 - 30,000 who have registered, but
everyone in this category!
None of the above will happen overnight, but that's what we should aim for!
