[atlarge-discuss] Act now -- Your privacy is at risk
Unless some of you start waking up and actually begin paying attention to
what is transpiring internally within ICANN policy-recommending bodies, you
will soon find yourself being further abused by intellectual property
interests that don't give a damn about your privacy rights. The WHOIS Task
Force has recommended that financial penalties and other penalties be
assessed against registrants that seek to guard their privacy.
Excerpt: "The Task Force believes that a method of graduated sanctions or
enforcements against parties who breach the requirement to provide accurate
information and to maintain an accurate Whois database, potentially as a
combination of policy and financial penalties, should be considered, in order
to facilitate the actual enforcement of the current policy with respect to
WHOIS data accuracy." (part VIII section A -- page 82 hmtl version)
Final comments on the WHOIS Task Force report are due August 28.
PS. This is a wee bit more important than selecting a new name for
icannatlarge.org. If you claim to represent the user community, then why not
start doing something that actually matters to users... you might even try
reading the report and sending in your comments. Unless, of course, you
enjoy losing even more of your rights.
