Re: [atlarge-discuss] (fwd) [icann-announce] ICANN Announces Nominating Committee Chair and Interim At-Large Advisory Committee Members

Esther (or Stuart),

It is good to see the interim ALAC established as the first step to
restoring some at large participation in ICANN. Overall the Board has
made some laudable choices in their appointments.

I am hoping you may be able to give some guidance to icannatlarge.org
as to how this dedicated group of 1,000+ people can play a part in the
ALAC (if the members vote that they wish to do so).

The problem that I see it is that icannatlarge.org is a global body
and hence not eligible to join a RALO and the RALOs are the only way
to join ALAC. This poses somewhat of a dilemma to icannatlarge.org
and the many members who have spent hundreds of hours trying to
establish it.

How would you advise icannatlarge.org to best resolve this dilemna, if
it wants to be involved in ALAC? Should it dissolve itself into five
separate regional bodies? Or could it act as a federation of five
regional bodies and gain recognition that way? Or is there any chance
that advocacy to ICANN to allow global at large bodies to also be
represented within ALAC would meet with favour?

Any thoughts you or Stuart can share on this matter would be much
appreciated as I don't think it benefits any of us to have people
spending time and energy moving in a particular direction if it is the
wrong one!

Regards

DPF
