HelpI'd like to thank Jamie Love for his support and participation over these past weeks,
both within the Icannatlarge.com interim panel, and (significantly) in the successful
motion calling for a re-bid, which he initiated through the General Assembly.
I'd also like to re-state my comments of May 2nd and May 6th and June 2nd,
calling for defined timescales for action and, specifically, a date for (a) nominations
(b) consultation and questions, and (c) voting.
As I have already stated: "I've been elected with a 90 day mandate and I do not
regard that as extendable without a further vote. I'd like to formally request the
publication of timescales for completing agreed and defined tasks."
The elections have to be carried out by 27th July.
I feel perplexed that we have failed to implement an election process within the
deadlines agreed.
As I wrote on June 2nd:
Once again, I request we simplify our agenda, limit our scope, and leave the
completion of other tasks to a newly-elected committee. The election is,
in my opinion, essential - we need an agreed date and we need agreement on
rules and process.
I personally believe we have no alternative but to call for immediate nominations,
and request statements from candidates. We should set a July 1st deadline for
agreement of the rules and processes, but we should not wait until then, before
calling for nominations.
The website forum should be used for this urgent action. In my opinion Joop
Teemstra was instrumental in getting the website, the first election, and the
organisation off the ground. Since then, we - seven panel members - have failed
to put in place an election procedure of our own. I find this perplexing.
There is another matter : I believe Jamie Love's resignation opens the way for us
to co-opt the candidate who was first runner-up, and some "new blood" (even for
a short period) would be extremely welcome. What were the terms of the previous
election. Was such a co-option mentioned, and was it optional or mandatory?
I'm not interested in my own position (I've already explained that I have no plans
to stand for re-election) and although I'm confused by our situation, I have no plans
to resign my position before 27th July. What matters is the continuing struggle to gain
democratic representation of ordinary users on the ICANN Board.
So - in a state of some concern and confusion - we need to journey on (with much
greater urgency please).
I personally, and in my representative role as a panel member, call for immediate
nominations, and stated dates for the execution of the election we were asked to carry out.
I'd like to thank all members of this organisation for their input and support. Without vision,
leadership and decisive action we risk losing the support and interest of many people who
have "come on board" so far.
So
July 27th or before, please.
And a co-opted panel member (first runner up in the election) please - because no-one can
deny that any "new blood" would be beneficial at this moment.
Sincerely, thank you
Richard Henderson
