My idea, again, is that to set up elections you first have to determine how
you will keep such elections. So we have to WORK to get elections
PRACTICALLY done, rather than complain about them not happening. I had asked
Jamie to produce an election charter and election arrangements, and then to
call for elections. I have seen nothing done, and then, Jamie's resignation.
I understand that other people, including me, could have been more
supportive to him, but alas, we are all voluntary people, and perhaps the
error was trying to do too many things at the same time; I hoped that he
could solve this problem alone and perhaps this was an error.

However, in the last week I had to co-organize and participate to a panel
discussion in Rome, where the future of ICANN was the central matter, and
where we obtained press coverage for the matter and we could talk with our
Communications Minister's advisors - and given that our Communication
Minister was about to define EU's position on ICANN reform in a few days, I
think it was good to push for user representation. In the meantime, I am
trying to set up our meeting in Bucharest, to work on a Bylaws proposal, to
keep discussing privately and publicly with people, to participate in ALOC,
and by the way, I even have a job.

So I want to point out one thing clearly: there is no "internal battle" or
"panel squatting" but, simply, we lack resources. I hoped Jamie could solve
the problem of setting up next elections alone, but in fact I think that he
felt abandoned and unsupported. I hope that he, or anyone else of us, can
actually work to set up elections - perhaps it will be easier by meeting
people directly in Bucharest next week, rather than by mail.

So, I do want to have elections, if possible by the end of July. And I want
to have draft Bylaws by then. I really ask Jamie to think again, and perhaps
in Bucharest we can meet and set up practicalities in two days and call for
elections immediately. I still think that it's not the case to call for
nominations before having an approved election charter and practical details
sorted out, but we have to move forward. I wonder whether the task in front
of us is too big, but please, now we need all people to work together in the
same direction and to trust each other, and not to end up in flames.
