[atlarge-discuss] Point of personal privilege -- I'm being disenfranchised byglitches in the system!

Dear all,

I'm sorry to inflict this on you but I don't know what else to do.

I never got a ballot and when I inquired, was told by both Elisabeth Porteneuve and Alexander Svensson (one of the election watchdogs) that I am not a member of ICANN At Large. Since I have in fact been a member since July 2000, I found that quite distressing.

However, I went through my archives and dug out the original messages from ICANN which confirm my status as a member, assuming that these would be sufficient for the Powers That Be to look into the matter and perhaps even send me a ballot in time.

Unfortunately, I was then very distressed to receive the information that my messages to both of them could not be delivered to their destinations. Since time is of the essence, I hope you'll forgive me for taking up your bardwidth in my efforts to reach somebody who can do something about the mix-up before the polls close.

Thank you!

Judyth

Dear Alexander,

Evidently there has been some mistake in the compilation of your membership list. I am sending you a "cc" of my message to Elizabeth Porteneuve in which I have copied the proof that I was indeed a registered member prior to the first At Large election in 2000.

I hope that will be sufficient to clear the matter up and get me my ballot before the voting closes.

Regards,

Judyth

Below you will find a copy of the confirmation message sent to me on 30 July 2000 following my registration as a member of ICANN At Large. It contains both my membership number and password, as well as the full Internet headers which will enable you to confirm its authenticity. I also quote the message of 1 September 2000 which was sent to "Activated Members" so you can confirm that I did indeed activate my membership as required, and the 9 October 2000 final reminder to vote in the first election. I did, in fact, vote in that election and receive the notice of results but my e-mail archiving leaves something to be desired and I have not yet found the disk containing the later messages.

Neither my name nor my e-mail address has changed since that time, nor have I resigned as a member of ICANN At Large, so it is a mystery to me why my name does not appear on your electoral roll.

Would you kindly research this matter without delay since the deadline for voting is tomorrow? I would prefer not to be disenfranchised by a clerical error.

Thanking you in advance for your co-operation,

Judyth Mermelstein

To Activated Members, North America region:

(September 1, 2000) The ICANN At Large process is now in the
member-nomination phase <http://members.icann.org/nom.html>. 50
individuals are currently candidates for member-nomination in the North
America geographic region. A list of those individuals appears at the
bottom of this email. At Large Members are encouraged to examine those
candidates' web pages, and to consider making an online endorsement.

The deadline for endorsements is 8 September.

To be member-nominated, a candidate must receive the online endorsements
of 2% of the activated members in his/her region (or 20 members,
whichever is greater), from at least 2 different countries. Together
with the 4 North America candidates nominated by the Nominating
Committee, the member-nominees will appear on the October ballot, up
to a maximum of 7 total nominees.

                *** FINAL REMINDER ***

(9 October 2000) If you have not already cast your vote, this is your
final opportunity!

Visit the secure online voting site for ICANN's At Large membership:
<https://vote.election.com/icann>. To cast your vote, you must provide
your member number, password, and PIN number -- the same information you
used to activate your At Large membership.

Voting will continue through Tuesday, October 10, 2000 (closing 12:00
midnight GMT/UTC). The At Large votes will be tabulated following the
conclusion of the deadline. Results will be posted as soon as the
tabulation is complete. Depending on the number of rounds of vote
tabulation required in each region, the tabulation and posting process
should take no more than a few hours. Details on the voting tabulation
methodology are posted at <http://members.icann.org/faq.htm#AVP>.

To learn about the nominees and take part in the Question & Answer
Forum, visit the ICANN At Large website: <http://members.icann.org/>.
