Dear Jeff,

For the last time, I'd like to ask you to check your facts.
I already have a busy career, thank you very much, and am
not putting myself forward as a candidate for anything, nor
have I in the past.

If you'll check the archives of this list, you will see that I
offered to act as recording secretary (not Secretary of the
organization) and do some of the joe-jobs which weren't being
done at all since they're apparently beneath the dignity of all
the would-be-alpha males in this group.

Given your vigorous objections to my doing anything of the sort,
I stepped back - after clarifying for you the difference
between "volunteer for minute-taking and such" and officer of
an organization. Unfortunately, nobody else stepped forward
(perhaps for fear of getting the same innuendos and sneers)
and so this group has carried on for months without proper
minutes of discussions, "working groups" that don't work,
and a general muddle.

Anyway, everyone should realize by now than Vittorio sent
his lists to Jan as well as myself, that neither of us had
asked for those lists but simply found them in our mailboxes,
and that we've both been quite punctilious about reporting
to the group and not misusing the information we'd received.

Indeed, and we behaved responsibly so I'm not sure why you
feel the need to be insulting about it. In any case, however
obvious it may be, there are some members of this group who
are evidently less concerned about members' privacy than Jan
and I and perhaps you could take that into account.

It's easy to say "the Panel is dead - let's elect a new Panel"
but - as we can all see - it is not so easy to hold that
all-important election without some agreement on how to do it,
and especially if nobody is empowered to send out an announcement
to members or ask for nominations.

I concur. Some basic conflict-of-interest guidelines and a
well-defined mandate for the next Interim Panel might well
prevent another year of aimless noise and make it possible
for us to do what this group was intended for.

Would anyone care to draft something along those lines for
the purpose of discussion?

Regards,

Judyth
