RE: [atlarge-discuss] An opportunity to help

This must occur only too frequently it seems. Last year the Host for my
domain went under and the only way I found out of the pending closure
was from an email of a rival Hosting company wanting to take over the
job.... Fortunately I was able to backup almost all files and begin the
move process BEFORE the date the site went down, but there was still a
period of several days when my site was unavailable and I still lost a
few images during the transfer process to a new Host firm.

I find this a questionable situation and believe that kind of lack of
transparency should be one thing this Org addresses.

Sincerely,

Joanna, I concur that this is exactly the sort of issue that this
organization should sink its teeth into.

The appropriate channel for the process is through a committee, as you
suggest; it should be authorized by the Panel, or more properly the
Board,
once we are incorporated.

But I think that making committees exclusive is something that should be
done
only in the rarest and most exigent of circumstances. This committee
will
need all the help it can get, even from people who haven't suffered this
kind
of loss.

As a rule, all our committees should be open to the members, with
exceptions
decided by the Board on a case-by-case basis.
