Re: [atlarge-discuss] Another lawsuit against ICANN, to stop WLS

Hi Danny

I take a slightly different angle on this.

What I would call into question is the actual process of decision-making
inside ICANN.

Having watched ICANN like the rest of us for some time now, I am highly
sceptical about the motives behind their decision-making and the vested
interests who may or may not be pulling strings behind the scenes; I am
disappointed about the lack of transparency when it comes to showing
Boardroom decision-making; and I am appalled by the lack of responsiveness,
when people try to ask searching questions about their policies or
decisions.

In short, there is little evidence of consensus policy making.

And I think it could be fairly argued that the decision to proceed with WLS
demonstrates the autocratic nature of the Board and the abandonment of
consensus.

Since the DNS is held "in stewardship" by ICANN on behalf of the worldwide
community, it behoves them to take much more account of points of view
beyond their own Boardroom and to justify their decision-making / policies
in lively dialogue and interaction.

It is this aspect of the WLS decision which concerns me.

I think the ICANN Board is self-perpetuating, working behind the scenes for
various interested parties, and will do whatever it likes, and hope to evade
challenge. There seems to be no accountability at all, except to DoC who
support them whatever because it suits US policy so to do.

Who, apart from ICANN and Verisign, actually wanted WLS in its present form?

yrs ever,

Richard Henderson
