Re: [atlarge-discuss] WG-OUTREACH 003 - Update and Action List

Ron

Your point is well made.

I e-mailed Marc privately earlier today, but I have assured Marc that I
assume nothing and that he can obviously decide whatever he wants with
regard to his domain.

We already owe him a debt of gratitude.

I suppose you could say that I've just been setting out (in public) the good
use I think the domain could be put to.

I was hesitant to approach him individually, and put it off for several
days, but Hans and Jefsey both suggested I "find out" Marc's position so
that is what I've now set about doing.

We could, of course, use other domains - but none seem so well suited to
"mirror" and stand in "juxtaposition" to Icann's own "at-large.org".
Moreover, Icann can hardly object to us using the term "at large" which is
in worldwide usage in many spheres, and the whole point of the proposed
"www.atlarge.org " umbrella is that it is not trying to be Icann's "at
large" but the "At Large" of the whole world, subdivided into subdomains, to
allow for people just like you to organise from the grassroots upwards.

By having an "At Large" site on the "At Large" domain, representing all
aspects of the At Large of internet users, we set ourselves up as THE
internet government in exile, as the substantial opposition - and the very
name (itself superior to at..hyphen..large) is a direct challenge to Icann.

But more importantly, it can become a rallying place for all our allies...
and we can start to gather together that coalition of user groups and
individuals that Icann fears most of all.

Kind regards

Richard
